    The following French words are not based on common "parts" as our Greek and Latin sections.  Therefore they can't be dissected into building blocks.  Try to assimilate these words into your speech and you will sound multi-cultural and impressive! 


blasé' - bored feeling 

      Bonnie was feeling blasé' about her wardrobe.


chic - stylish            

      Jun-luk bought a new chic outfit.


debonair - charming 

       Bonnie's boyfriend was debonair with all her friends.


elite - superior        

       Marie was a member of an elite social club.


entrepreneur - someone with a new risky business venture.

         Pierre proved he was an entrepreneur when he ventured              into business buying and selling perfume for profit.


envoy - messenger 

        Philip was a political envoy from Paris.


gourmand - glutton

        Pierre padded his pallet and his derrière.  He was a gourmand.


connoisseur - expert

        Michelle was a connoisseur of fine perfumes.  She wore only the best for the debutante's gala.


bourgeoisie - middle class

        Devon was a contributing member of the bourgeoisie.  


valet - manservant attending another's needs

        Valet parking has become the norm for an au courant wedding.


nouveaux - new

faux - fake

        Marie purchased a nouveaux faux fur coat.  She looked like a parvenu.


parvenu - one with sudden wealth, without proper social graces.


protégé' -   Peter was a protégé' of Monet.

liaison -  bond, go between

        Lindsee'  was a liaison between the United Nations and France.  She was chosen by the regime for her bouffant coiffure.  Her fiancé wore a toupee.    


facade - front

    Thomas had a dwelling with a brick facade.  He hid behind the facade of being wealthy.


vogue - fashion

    Polyester is now in vogue, but may be gone tomorrow.


fatigue - tired

Lucille was fatigue after staying up to late with Peter studying for her French test.
